Subject: Sept 19 Field Trip Notice

Come one, come all to the first BPS Field Trip of the 2015-2016 season! Everyone is invited to participate in these casual club excursions, which offer an informal setting to improve your photography, get to know club members better, and discover beautiful and interesting locations around the province.

Our first destination this club season is Eastern Passage, this Saturday, September 19th. We plan to carpool from Tim Horton’s in Bridgewater (464 LaHave Street, beside the Dairy Queen), leaving at 8 AM. Google maps show a time of about 1 1/2 hours to Eastern Passage, so we should arrive at Fisherman’s Cove Wharf around 9:30 AM. At this time, we will try to take a group photo before people get involved in visual adventures.

Derek plans to leave from Chester so some might like to organize a carpool up that way with him. If you make carpool arrangements on your own, please let me know so that i am aware of people to expect at Fisherman’s Cove other than those leaving from Timmie’s in Bridgewater.

As is custom, we will lunch together at a local restaurant. (BPS is not responsible for covering the cost of lunch—or the mood or skills of the chef!). Three nearby options are Boondocks, Emma’s Eatery, or Wharf Wraps. After reading online information, my preference is Emma’s Eatery but i am open to considering other information from those who have eaten at any of these restaurants.

After lunch, you may choose to return home or stay on to take pictures at the nearby parks, Halifax waterfront, or Shearwater Aviation Museum, which is free and open from noon to 4. .

“Frame of Mind” for the trip:

One suggestion from last May’s club survey was to use these trips to think about collecting images that could market or promote specific locations—for example, as part of a tourism strategy or to advertise a private business. There’s always the opportunity to increase one’s stock of possible images for formal competitions, including the Treasure Hunt competition (March 22, 2016). Most simply like to capture images that they can share with other members during field-trip slide shows scheduled a couple weeks after each trip.

Like any excursion, it is important to wear appropriate footwear, especially if conditions at the wharf are slippery. If you own a personal water bottle or travel mug, I encourage you to bring these along as they will reduce the amount of waste we leave behind.
