The Bridgewater Photo Club met on November 25th 2014, with 40 members in attendance.attendance.

It was announced that Charlene Lewis has published a book entitled Are You Looking For Me and will be present for a book signing November 29th Book Store. James Campbell announced that a field trip to Mahone Bay will be held on Saturday, November 27th. The Father Christmas theme will be the focus of attention as  well as a visit to Gilbert van Ryckervorsel’s art gallery.

There were two presentations. Sara Harley, club president, spoke of her involvement with the Blurb Book Publishing Company. She has used this medium to compile and sell books. The full profits from these endeavors go to support such worthwhile charities such as the South Shore Hospital’s Rose Fund and the SHAID Animal Shelter. The latter has received approximately $5000.

Sara had suggestions which are meant to get your photographs off your computers and into print. She gave tips to help members with their own publishing. She mentioned that choosing the size of the book’s format is important. This will help with your choice of photographs, your page layout, your text, etc. She further mentioned that the Blurb company facilitates a moderately easy way to promote your photographic themes.

The books can be used as gifts, as aforementioned fund raising tools or an added feature of the photographer’s hobby.

Debbie Croft, a member of the Bridgewater Photo Club since 1999, gave the second presentation. Her superb photos covered a wide gamut of photographic subjects. By converting her analog slides to digital images as well as using her photos taken with her digital cameras, she presented images that included a blend of portraits, environmental portraits, and human interest.

Debbie has a particular interest in photographing plants, flowers, creative images, and the unique“images that just do their own thing”.

A slide presentation was started on the Nature Competition. The images were judges off site and presented with accompanying comments and marks. Time did not allow us to finish the complete competition. This will be continued at another meeting.

There was time for a slide presentation on the recent field trip to Blue Rocks and Stonehurst. This trip included the annual scavenger hunt.

The BPS invites all photographers to come and join us on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month at the MARC in Dayspring.
