Presentation:
Ryerson Clarke – Portrait Photography.  Mr. Clarke resides in Mahone Bay and enjoys landscape, wildlife, portrait, street and stock photography.  He completed his formal photography education at the Hallmark Institute of Photography.  He has been doing stock photography for the past ten years.  His presentation included a wonderful showing of a variety of his portrait images over the years as well as great information with respect to portraiture.  His website is:  http://www.ryersonclark.com.

Several things make a good portrait or photo including face, sign, subject and he suggested keeping it simple and paying attention to little details.  He normally utilizes one or two lights and natural lights and noted that, in the end, if your subject likes the image, it’s successful.  There are a variety of different types of portraits including:  faces, people, faceless, story-telling and noted there is more freedom in portrait photography now compared to earlier days of studio photography.

Personally, he uses only two lenses – a 35mm and a 75mm.  He will generally use a grey screen/background as it’s easier to pick the subject off a grey background in post-processing.

He shared his knowledge about stock photography and most importantly, suggested to have fun with your photography.

Competitions:
The nature and pictorial competitions were judged on line.  The images were shown to members at the meeting and the judges had also provided evaluations of the images that were read out as each image was shown.  There were 16 honour awards in the nature category.

It was announced that the winner of the Nature trophy is Trevor Awalt and the winner of the Floral trophy is Karen Parnell Herrick.

Meeting adjourned at 9:30 pm.
